An Occupation Permit ("OP") allows a foreign citizen to work and reside in Mauritius provided certain conditions are met. The OP can be applied for, under three different categories namely:

Self‑Employed applicants must invest at least USD 50,000 in a services‑sector activity, provide three letters of intent (including two from prospective local clients), and earn a minimum of MUR 750,000 in year 1, scaling to a cumulative turnover of MUR 6 million by the end of year 5. For renewal from year 6 onwards, the business must generate at least MUR 1.5 million in annual income. Self‑employed OP holders may hire one local administrative employee. The permit can be granted for up to 10 years
There are two categories of Professional Occupation Permit: Pro-Pass (Professional Pass): A monthly basic salary of at least MUR 30,000. Expert Pass: A monthly basic salary of at least MUR 250,000. Permit duration: up to 10 years
An investor may qualify for an Investor Occupation Permit under three routes: Invest at least USD 50,000 (or equivalent) and achieve a minimum turnover of MUR 1.5 million in year 1, with cumulative turnover of MUR 20 million by year 5; from year 6 onward, the business must generate at least MUR 5 million in annual turnover. Invest at least USD 100,000 (or equivalent) and achieve a minimum turnover of MUR 1 million in year 1, with cumulative turnover of MUR 15 million by year 5; from year 6 onward, the same minimum annual turnover of MUR 5 million applies. Qualify as an innovative start‑up by submitting an innovative project to the Economic Development Board or registering with an incubator accredited by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council, with renewal conditions set by the EDB Chief Executive Officer
